How long the switch takes
Most transfers complete by the next business day. Transfers can take up to 48 hours, not including the weekend.
Once you submit a line on our portal, the transfer can take up to 48 hours. Most of the time it's faster — the majority of transfers complete by the next business day.
The weekend rule
T-Mobile's porting office is closed on weekends, so transfers only move Monday through Friday. If you submit a line on a Friday, it will most likely be transferred on Monday. Nothing is wrong, and nothing is stuck.
While you wait
- Your old service keeps working. There's no dead zone — your current line stays live until the moment the switch happens, which is why you shouldn't cancel it early.
- The final switchover is quick. When the transfer completes, downtime is typically under 10 minutes while your phone activates the new line. Here's what that moment looks like.
- You might see a brief overlap. Calls ringing on the old service while texts arrive on the new one is normal for up to a day.
If it's been longer than 48 hours
Business days, that is. Past that window, something usually needs a nudge, most often a small detail mismatch with your old carrier. Check my transfer seems stuck, or just email us and we'll chase it down.
