Check if your phone is compatible

Three quick checks before you switch: your phone is on our supported list, paid off, and unlocked.

Before you switch, give your phone a two-minute checkup.

It needs to pass three checks: it's on our supported list, it's paid off, and it's unlocked.

1. On our supported list

Every line is activated as an eSIM on T-Mobile's network. Recent iPhones, Samsung Galaxy phones, and Google Pixels make the cut, but some phones — including many that can hold an eSIM — would need a physical SIM to work on the network, and we can't support those yet. Check yours against the full list of supported phones.

2. Paid off

If you're still making device payments to your old carrier, the phone technically isn't fully yours yet — and carriers generally won't unlock a phone that's still being financed. We don't transfer financing, so the balance needs to be cleared with your old carrier first. If you're not sure, check your carrier's app or your last bill for a device payment line item.

3. Unlocked

An unlocked phone can be used on any network. A locked phone can only be activated by the carrier that locked it — which means it can't activate our eSIM.

  1. Open Settings, tap General, then About.
  2. Scroll to Carrier Lock (older iPhones may say Network Provider Lock).
  3. If it says No SIM restrictions, you're unlocked and good to go.

If your phone is locked, only your current carrier can unlock it. Our unlocking guide covers how to request it.

All three green?

You're ready. Head to what you need to switch to gather your transfer details, or if anything came up short, send us a note and we'll figure out the path forward together.
