Calls on the old phone, texts on the new one?
A short "dual service" period during the switch is normal and resolves on its own within about a day.
Calls still ringing on your old phone while texts arrive on the new service? Strange as it feels, this is a completely normal part of switching, and it fixes itself.
What's happening
While your number moves between carriers, the various systems that route calls and texts don't all flip at the same instant. For a short window — usually less than 24 hours — you can have a split-brain situation:
- Calls ring on the old service, texts land on the new one
- Or the reverse: texts on old, calls on new
- Some contacts reach you on one, some on the other
Every combination is a version of the same thing: the network mid-handoff.
What to do
Mostly, nothing — it resolves on its own once the transfer fully settles. While you wait:
- Keep both phones on if you're switching devices, so nothing gets missed.
- Don't cancel or power down the old line; let the port close it naturally. (Why that matters.)
- A restart of the new phone after a few hours can help it settle faster.
If it lasts more than a day
Past 24 hours, we'd like to take a look — occasionally a network refresh on our side snaps everything into place. Send us a note with your number and what's still split, and we'll finish the handoff for you.
