Don't cancel your old plan until the switch is complete
Cancelling early can cost you your number.
It's tempting to cancel your old plan the moment you sign up with us.
Please don't — not yet.
Keeping your old account active until your new service is confirmed working is the single most important rule of a smooth switch.
Why it matters
Your number transfer works by pulling an active number from your old carrier. If you cancel first, the number can be released back into the carrier's pool — and a released number is often gone for good. No transfer, no recovery, no exceptions we can make on our end.
What to keep on until the switch completes
- The line itself — active service, not suspended or expired (prepaid users: make sure your service hasn't lapsed).
- Autopay — don't turn it off early; a missed payment can suspend the line mid-transfer.
- Final charges — don't dispute them until the port completes.
The good news: you won't pay double for long, and your old service keeps working right up until the moment the transfer completes — most finish by the next business day.
When it's safe to cancel
Once your Wizard line is live and you've made a call, sent a text, and used data, the switch is done — your ported line closes automatically at your old carrier. Then cancel any remaining lines or services on the old account so you don't get billed again. One more heads-up before you close the door completely: saved voicemails don't carry over, so export anything you care about first.
