Understand your first payment
Why your first invoice is higher than your normal monthly bill: a one-time activation fee plus taxes and fees.
Your first invoice will be higher than your normal monthly bill. Here's exactly what's in it, and when it lands, so nothing on it is a mystery.
When you're charged
Your first invoice lands the day your first line is activated, and that's when your monthly billing date is set. Adding lines later works the same way: nothing until the line goes live.
What's on the first invoice
- Your plan price — the monthly per-line rate you signed up at.
- A one-time activation fee — charged once per line, the day that line is activated, covering the cost of provisioning your service on the network. You will not see it again for that line. Because the provisioning work happens up front, activation fees are non-refundable.
- Taxes and line fees — government taxes and regulatory fees that every carrier collects.
What every invoice after looks like
From the next invoice onward, the activation fee disappears and your bill settles into its regular rhythm:
- Plan price per line
- Taxes and line fees (these recur — they're part of every bill, everywhere, on every carrier)
- Any add-ons you've chosen, like international calling
So: first invoice = normal bill + one-time activation fee. If your first bill is higher than your second, that's the system working correctly.
If something still looks off
The charges guide breaks down each line item, and if a number still doesn't make sense to you, send us the invoice and we'll walk through it line by line. Genuinely wrong? We'll make it right.
