How to get a Transfer PIN
Here's how to request the right one from your carrier.
A Number Transfer PIN (sometimes called a Port-Out PIN) is a one-time code your carrier issues specifically for moving your number to a new carrier. It is not your regular account security PIN — sending us the wrong one is the most common PIN mix-up we see, and it will get the transfer rejected.
AT&T
- In the myAT&T app or att.com: Profile, then Manage account, then Settings, then Transfer phone number, then Request new PIN.
- Or dial *PORT from your AT&T phone and follow the prompts. You'll need your AT&T account passcode.
AT&T Transfer PINs expire after 4 days, so grab yours right before you're ready to submit.
Verizon
Three ways, pick whichever is easiest:
- By phone (easiest): dial #PORT (#7678) and press call. Verizon texts you a link — tap Generate PIN.
- My Verizon app: Account, then Edit profile & settings, then Number Transfer PIN, then Generate PIN.
- Verizon website: My Profile, then Number Transfer PIN, then Generate PIN.
Verizon PINs are 6 digits and valid for 7 days. One catch: Verizon's Number Lock is on by default and blocks transfers — turn it off first.
Other carriers
- Cricket: dial *PORT from your Cricket phone, or in the myCricket app tap the gear icon, select your line, then Get my Number Transfer PIN. Valid 5 days — and Cricket is explicit that this is not your account PIN.
- Prepaid brands (Straight Talk, Tracfone, Total Wireless, Simple Mobile, and similar): text NTP to 611611 from your phone and the Transfer PIN comes back by text.
- Visible: generate it yourself in the app under Account, then Transfer number.
- Google Fi: shown inside the transfer-out flow along with your account number. It's case-sensitive — screenshot it.
- Anyone else: contact your carrier and ask specifically for a "Number Transfer PIN" or "Port-Out PIN" for your line.
Timing matters
Most Transfer PINs expire within days. The smoothest order: get everything else ready first — account number, billing zip, number lock off — then request the PIN last and send it straight to us.
